The SUV (Sports
Utility Vehicle) market is made up of three segments. The fun and fashion
market, traditional SUVs and the prestige market.
The traditional SUVs which are built like trucks, have suffered a large
shrinkage in their market share. The biggest segment, the fun and fashion SUVs
are mainly built like cars and called crossovers. There have been eight new
entrants into the fun and fashion segment in 2007/8.
Fun and fashion SUVs are either compact or medium in size and make stylish
versatile family cars.
The Chevrolet Captiva is a medium size crossover SUV in the fun and fashion
sector. The Captiva sets itself apart by offering either FWD or AWD. The
Front-Wheel-Drive models can be 2.4 petrol or 2.0 diesels. All-Wheel-Drive
models have diesel engines with Decent Control as a standard feature and can be
5 or 7-seaters. The 7-seaters have the option of an automatic gearbox.
Captivas can be customised with ICE packages, spoilers, lowering kits, side bars
and 20” alloy wheels.
SUV buyers have a huge range of choice. Some car buyers consider MPVs as an
alternative.
