To understand
things we use evidence, examples contrast or comparisons.
Comparisons give us the likeness and differences of two or more things.
Comparisons both liken and contrast.
Comparisons are difficult with cars because we have to consider: performance,
versatility, comfort, reliability, durability, appearance, prestige, economy and
safety.
Magazines don’t make it any easier. Their back pages contain thousands of cells.
The lines are the models and the columns the car features. The values in each
cell are in tiny writing. To make a comparison you have to flick from page to
page. Each time you have to hold a value in your memory whilst trying to find
another cell in a sea of cells.
The internet is no easier because you have to know exactly what you’re looking
for to select car models from drop-down menus. The results are generated by
computer software. The trouble is sometimes data is mistaken and then repeated
unchecked by human common sense. You also have to click from page to page to
find out all you want to know.
So I’ve decided to hand make car comparisons for easy use.
I’m not going to feature all 40 plus makes of car. Only 20 to 25 car
manufacturers are of interest. And I’m not going to compare every car model.
Only 200 to 250 can be of any real use. And I’ll only be comparing the most
popular derivatives.
So you won’t be unnecessarily excited by a car comparison between a Ferrari and
Lamborghini. It’ll be more Fiat and Land Rover.
We start by
comparing
SUVs
Then
Small Car Comparisons
Sincerely
Ralph Spence
